You probably envisioned what it would be like to have a baby for years. So many of us can hardly believe that we’re pregnant and there’s so much excitement that surrounds this huge event in our lives.
When it comes time to decorate the nursery, there is a great deal of anticipation and even anxiety that goes into it. If you are anything like me you want to get it just right and therefore put a lot of thought into it.
I felt that I had to make this room not only safe but very special for my little girl. When I faced the decision of decorating the nursery I took a lot of important factors into consideration. If you want to make this a room fit for your baby then use your best instincts to guide you and it can truly become the nursery of your dreams!
There are some important tips to keep in mind as you go through the decorating stage. Let me share some of the best tips that helped to make my daughter’s nursery truly amazing.
1. Don’t limit yourself and use your own taste and preferences to guide you: You are going to be the best judge of what your baby needs in every aspect of their life. Therefore use your tastes, your instincts, and your preferences to help guide you through the best decorating styles for your baby’s nursery.
I personally have a very modern taste and knew that I wanted to incorporate elements of that into my daughter’s nursery. So though it didn’t necessarily keep with tradition, my husband and I created something truly special with a modern flair. This helped to ensure that we ended up with the most amazing nursery possible.
2. Truly make this a sanctuary for your baby—let it be the most special room in the house: Don’t be afraid to let this room shine! This is in fact going to be where you dress, care for, and let your baby rest. It can be over the top and it should be special because a baby changes everything.
If you have the budget for it then invest in the best furniture and spend a bit extra on the right paint color. Though it may stick out from the rest of your home, that’s okay as it is truly the most special room in the house.
3. Always keep safety in the forefront of all of your planning: Though the room should be decorated properly, it must always be safe as well. Safety comes first and therefore a good review of the room can really serve you well. I took a good long look at everything in the room and ensured that all wall hangings were away from where my baby slept.
I made sure that all plugs and outlets were safely covered and that the crib wasn’t near the window. Though decorating the room is a major focus, you must always keep safety at the forefront of your mind. Do find all the right decorations but just be sure that there is never the risk of them falling on or hurting your baby.
4. A theme can never serve you wrong as it can help to create a focal point for everything: Themes can always make for a great way to decorate from the inside out. Consider for example an adorable theme carried out perfectly like the “Disney Princess bedroom decor“.
Not only can this help to dictate the color scheme and overall theme for the room, but you can center everything else around this. I used this theme to help select furniture, wall hangings, accessories, and everything else we needed for my baby’s perfect room. A theme can really help you to get excited and make your decorating job easier.
Decorating your baby’s nursery may very well be the one of the most important aspects of your nursery. If you allow yourself to get excited, use safety to guide you, and trust your instincts this can also be a very enjoyable aspect of the journey as well.
