Style tips for working mothers

As a mother, fashion can often be put on the backburner – the school run won’t wait for you to pick out an outfit! But if you’re a working mother, you’ll still need to make the effort to look professional – even if you’re running round like a lunatic after the kids. If your work dress code is very formal, the clothes you wear can be quite restrictive and uncomfortable – not great when you leave the office to rush round picking the kids up from school and any other after school clubs they attend. But there are many different options when it comes to stylish workwear, which will also make a working mom’s life a lot easier!

Trouser suits are a great choice of outfit as they are really versatile. However, wearing a suit jacket all day can be quite uncomfortable. Instead, wear a smart blouse or top with the suit trousers – save the jacket for meetings. It doesn’t sound like a big change, but it will help you feel more comfortable when you’re running around before and after work when you don’t have time to get changed. Getting clothes in natural materials always help, as they allow your skin to breathe. Alternatively a smart pencil skirt looks great if that’s more your style – the key is to keep your choices simple but sophisticated.

It often seems to be that a pair of shoes can make or break an outfit; and that still counts for when you’re at work! You don’t have to wear sky scraper heels for work to look professional, but neither do you have to wear dull and boring flats. There are plenty of options in between which will look great, and support your feet whilst you’re running around. Brands such as Rieker are a great place to start, as they are comfortable, professional and stylish. The right shoes for work are essential – aching feet after a long day is a horrible feeling!

Changing your office style will help you feel more comfortable, especially when you change from work mode to Mom mode. Feeling comfortable in what you wear will also help you feel confident – something we all try to be at work! Tweaking your wardrobe and investing in a few essentials is all you need to do.  To help speed along week day morning’s is to plan your outfit your night before; not the most exciting thing to do before you go to bed, but saving precious minutes in the morning needed to shoehorn your kids into their school uniforms!

Let me know what you think and if I need to make any changes.
