How to be a nurse and a mom

Being a nurse is a full time job and so is being a mom, so actually finding time to live your life can be incredibly difficult. When it comes to finding a work and life balance, it can be a little bit like searching for something that seems unattainable. For one thing, you want to be the best nurse you can be, but you also want to be the best mom to. Learning how to find this balance takes some work and preparation, but eventually you will find that sweet spot. Moreover, if you make finding this balance a main drive in your life, it will be easier to find and it will be easier to adhere to that sweet spot. Here are five tips for finding work life balance.

How to be a nurse and a mom

  1. Have someone by your side. Whether it is a parent, a friend or a partner, having a supportive person by your side can be hugely beneficial in helping you find that work life balance. Not only can this person tell you when you need to take a break, but they can also be there to tell you it’s okay to take a break and relax.
  2. Stay organized. If you are getting one of¬†University of Cincinnati’s online masters in nursing¬†degrees, you will definitely need to stay organized and tidy. If you don’t remain organized, you will be frustrated and finding yourself always trying to tie up loose ends. At the end of the day, this can keep you further and further away from finding that work life balance that you so desperately need. When it comes down to it, keeping your work life organized will allow you to wrap everything up and go home at night.
  3. Make finishing goals a priority. If you look at work like an obstacle course and the completion of each hurdle as a goal completed, it will be easier to stay driven and motivated to complete the tasks at hand. More than anything, though, knowing that you are completing goals will allow you to take the time you need to relax when you need to. As a mom, this can be vital if you have a small child to raise.
  4. Be flexible. Being a full time mom and a full time nurse can be difficult. While you can’t really have a lot of flexibility with raising a child, you can have more flexibility with work. So, if you are looking for that work life balance, you may want to ask your employer to give you a little more slack. There is a strong chance that your employer will understand.
  5. Create time. Time is of the essence when you are a nurse and a mom. So, you have to make time a commodity that you don’t take for granted. For instance, you want to force yourself to take breaks when you need them. Who knows, maybe you should take a vacation. Finding work life balance is also about finding enjoyment in what you do, which is especially important if you are a new mother.
