How to paint wall art in your child’s room

When you have a child, you want to create a safe and inspiring atmosphere for him or her. One of the best places to do this is in your child’s room. Not only do you want to paint the walls with warm and inviting colors – you may also want to think about painting a small mural in your child’s room. When you paint your child’s bedroom, you want to think about words, bright colors and imagery that elicits warm childhood memories. If you want to create a warm atmosphere for your child, you want to keep a few things in mind when creating wall art. Here is how to paint wall art in your child’s bedroom.

How to paint wall art

  1. Prep the wall for painting. Before you paint wall art, you want to prep the wall. You can do this by taking a sponge and wiping away dust or dirt that may be on the wall. If you have a previous mural, you may want to use paint thinner to erase some of the previous paint.
  2. Add a layer of primer. After you clean the wall, you want to add a layer of primer. If the previous coat of paint is particularly dark, you may want to add two layers of primer. When it comes down to it, primer will create a blank canvas of sorts – so that you can freely create new artwork. Primer will also act as an adhesive and it will help the new layer of paint settle. In addition, it will add to the luster of the new wall art.
  3. Use a stencil and other tools to draw an outline. After the wall is thoroughly prepped and primered, you want to draw an outline of the art you are going to paint. If you don’t draw an outline, your wall art may look disorganized. When it comes down to it, you may want to use a stencil to draw the outline. Once the outline is created, you can then fill it in with your desired colors. An outline will also make the painting process much more efficient.
  4. Use vinyl lettering instead of painting letters. If you are adding words to your wall art masterpiece, you may want to use vinyl lettering – from a company like Words Anywhere. Vinyl lettering is much cleaner than painting the letters on. When you stencil letters, you may get some dripping from the paint. Moreover, you have to deal with more clean up. When you use vinyl lettering, there is virtually no clean up and the lettering will look great.
  5. Paint a clear protectant layer to ensure the mural’s longevity. After your mural is complete and the paint is completely dry, you want to place a protectant layer or seal over the art. This protectant seal will make it easier to clean the wall and it will help the art last longer. In the end, your child’s room will get very messy, so you want the mural to stay bright and lustrous for a long time to come.
