Debbie LaChusa is a fraternal twin, and she’s always been fascinated by the special bond that exists between her and her sister. In fact, Debbie started a web site called “Twin Connections” especially to celebrate “the unique and often mysterious bond that connects twins.” Here’s what Debbie says about her connection with her sister, Valerie:
“I can’t tell you how many times I have been thinking about calling my sister, when the phone has rung and it was her on the other end. We seem to have that extra sense that makes this kind of thing happen all the time. All these strange connections and our special ‘extra sense’ are only a part of the special bond my sister and I share, although I’ll admit it wasn’t always that way.
“We didn’t always get along as children—but then it’s tough having someone you feel like you have to compete with all the time! There were times I wished I didn’t have to share the attention, such as at birthdays and graduations and special days like that. It was tough always having to share the spotlight. In fact, I remember one thing I really enjoyed about my wedding (and actually, I didn’t even realize it until after the fact) was that it was the first time I didn’t have to share the spotlight with my sister (although she was in my wedding party, of course!).
“Like any friendship, we’ve had our ups and downs. But I wouldn’t trade my twin sister and our wonderful connection for anything in the world. I am lucky to live near her and her family. And I am very blessed to be a twin and have my twin sister Valerie in my life.”
On the Twin Connections web site, Debbie is collecting stories like hers that demonstrate that special bond between twins. If you are a twin, or a parent, sibling or friend of twins, and have a story that shows this unique connection, I invite you to visit Debbie’s site at www.twinconnections.com to submit it for her upcoming book (to be published in electronic form and potentially as a paperback). Your twin story may be a simple one illustrating the twin bond and connection you’ve experienced or witnessed, or it may be an amazing twin story that can’t be explained any other way than to chalk it up to that “mysterious bond between twins.” If you submit your story, you’ll receive a free copy of Twin Connections when it’s published.
