The Caffeinated Truth – Is Caffeine Really Killing Your Youth?

Coffee Beans in a Coffee CupContrary to what you’ve probably been told, caffeine is actually good for you. For years we’ve been told about the negative side effects that caffeine has on our bodies. So let’s turn the tables a bit shall we? There are plenty of reasons why caffeine should be included in your daily intake.

Antioxidants to Fight Free Radicals

Caffeine is an amazing source of antioxidant benefits. You may be surprised to find out that a single cup of coffee gives you more antioxidants than having a few servings of fruit! That’s good news, too because your average American probably gets the bulk of their antioxidants from coffee. It appears that caffeine gives your skin protection from free radicals, which means it can be a great tool in your fight against aging. You can get this benefit from getting caffeine either orally or through topical solutions that contain caffeine.

Combat Cellulite

While caffeine is traditionally known to dehydrate you, leading many to believe it’s not good for your skin, this actually brings some benefit. Women all over are looking for ways to get rid of cellulite. Unfortunately, there’s no real true way to eliminate cellulite permanently. But with the use of caffeine, you can see short term improvements. Caffeine has a diuretic effect that can temporarily make cellulite less of an eye-sore, which is why it’s used in many topical creams.

Get Rid of Puffy Eyes

Studies done by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition appears to show that caffeine decreases inflammation by constricting your small blood vessels. So the next time you wake up with pin-cushion eyes, try moistening a couple of tea bags and gently pressing them over your eyes for a few minutes. There are also puffy-eye treatments available that you can buy which use caffeine in them.

Promote Hair Growth

Caffeine may be just what you need if you want to promote better hair growth. The Department of Dermatology and Allergology, at the Univeristy of Jena in Germany did a study that measured the effects of caffeine on hair. Surprise! The results shown that caffeine greatly increased the growth of hair follicles. Alpecin and Alva are a few of the companies that offer caffeine energized shampoos.

Sun Damage Protection

Leslie Baumann, M.D., an expert on Yahoo’s health channel says both caffeine may be an answer for sun-damaged skin. Both black and green tea that’s caffeinated repaired sun damage and protected against it in a study done on mice. Using caffeine as a topical treatment may even repair UV damage.

Caffeine Deydrates You? No…

According to Web MD, caffeine does not dehydrate you as many people think it does. Yes, it may make you have to run to the bathroom, but the fluids you’re drinking when you drink tea or coffee offsets that liquid loss.
