Back in the day sprinklers were the greatest thing in the world. Most middle-class people did not own a pool or if they did, they were the inflatable kiddie pool or something very small. Therefore, sprinklers were all the rage.
Our sprinklers back then were just that, sprinklers. There was nothing fancy about them. They were your typical yard sprinkler that released water out in a fan-like pattern. When the days became warm we looked forward with excitement when Mom or Dad set the sprinkler up for us to cool down and play in. We would play games to see who could run through the sprinkler the fastest. We were happy and we loved it!
Fast forward. Children these days have all of the bells and whistles in many products and this includes sprinklers as well.
