Being pregnant with multiples means there your body has more nutritious needs! You are no longer supplying nutrients for one! You are supplying for many! I have compiled a list of foods that you need and foods you should avoid during your pregnancy with multiples!
1. Protein is high on the list as a must have! One of the best ways to get protein is through nuts! As if I ever needed an excuse to eat more almonds and pistachios! Nuts contain high amounts of protein along with other nutrients that your body needs! Some nuts contain Vitamin E, phosphorus, magnesium, and iron!
2. Foods High in Fiber are a good choice! They will also help you to not be constipated during your pregnancy. Foods such as whole grains, breads, and breakfast cereal can help you to get the daily fiber you will need.
3. Drinking lots of water! Water can help your pregnancy and help you to avoid early labor! Plus it will help you with any swelling that may occur during your pregnancy!
4. Folic Acid is good to keep in your diet because it helps in the replication of healthy cells in your baby. Folic Acid also is needed to develop the red blood cells in the fetus and will help the placenta grow! WoW! That is a lot of benefits! Food high in Folic Acid are Grapefruits, Oranges, Artichokes, Asparagus, Broccoli, Okra, Peas, Spinach, Onions, Beans, Beef, Pork, Chicken, and egg yolks!
5. Vitamins are wonderful during your pregnancy! For example Vitamin B6 helps to develop the brain and nervous system of the developing fetuses. Vitamin D is needed to develop your children’s teeth and bones. Foods that contain Vitamin’s include fruits, veggies, breakfast cereal, nuts, as well as Chicken and dairy products!
There are also a number of foods to avoid during your pregnancy!
1. Fish can be a wonderful item to eat during your pregnancy and is believed to help your child’s brain functions and is said that without the omega-3 fatty acids your child might have poor verbal skills as well as behavior problems. But seafood can also be very harmful to your unborn children. Fish such as swordfish, Shark, King Mackerel, and Tilefish contain high amounts of Mercury and could lead to underdeveloped nervous system in your children.
2. Stay away from undercooked meat such as sushi or rare beef, chicken, or seafood. Eating undercooked meat can lead to food poising and that is not something you want during your pregnancy! It can also contain bacteria that you don’t want your unborn children to come into contact with!
3. Deli meat is one that I had never known. Deli meat is said to have a bacteria called Listeria which can lead to miscarriage. We never want that now do we? If you don’t want to avoid that Deli meat then make sure to cook to 165 degrees before eating!
4. Soft Cheeses- This is also a food that you might not think to avoid! Blue cheese, feta, Brie or camembert can also contain that harmful Listeria!
5. Raw eggs are another food that should be avoided! Undercooked or Raw eggs can contain salmonella. Raw eggs can also be found in items such as Egg Nog and Caesar Salad Dressing.
While there are so many things to remember during your pregnancy such as what to eat and what to avoid. The biggest thing I want you all to do is focus on how wonderful it is to be carrying your children. Enjoy your pregnancy as much as you can! Life is wonderful and you are blessed to have this experience!
