OK toast quality, HUGE footprint

Unlike the reviews we'd read before purchasing, we think this toaster only does a fair job toasting bread. I've had far cheaper toasters that toasted more evenly. One potential cause is that the filaments do not all glow evenly during the toasting cycle. In fact, when watching down the slot during toasting, many of them barely get a dull-red--much less the bright glow normally associated with a heating filament.
Another surprise was just how huge the toaster was. We'd seen many T-Fal toasters with this same form-factor in stores on many occasions. We should have looked at the dimensions in the Amazon description! It uses up FAR more counter space than we'd planned on.
So, if you think bigger is better, you might enjoy spending the money for this bad boy. But if you like your toast nice and even, I'd keep looking. |
Worth the Bread!

Works great! Great options! I did a lot of research to find the right toaster. I was on the fence on this one due to some reviews. I bought it anyway and was very pleased. I'm not a manual reader, but I did browse though the manual before I toasted anything and I'm glad I did. You have to turn it on high and depress both sides (with nothing in it) for 3 consecutive times (to get the new smell out of it). It did have a strong "new smell" which went away after the 3rd time (like the manual said).
It does a great job on toast and bagels. Evenly toasts. The bagels option button is awesome! It only toasts the cut side of the bagel, leaving the outside of the bagel soft. This was a nice surprise.
It's worth the bread for this one! Other reviews about the toasting may have been from not doing the steps in the manual before using. We are very happy with ours. |
Oh my toaster, how I love thee

This was one of my luckiest garage sale finds ever. I was suspicious when I bought it-- it was just about brand new, so why was someone selling it so cheap? I asked if anything was wrong with it. Nope, she said. Figured it was worth a shot.
It's by far the best toaster I've ever owned. It's no faster than the others, but it's reliable, toasts evenly, doesn't get too hot, and that lever to push the toast up and out is awesome. As others have mentioned, it would be nice to have the bagel option on both sides, but aside from that, it's just a great, stylish toaster. It does take up a fair amount of counter space, but if you use a toaster as often as I do, it's worth it. I've had it for more than a year now of near-daily use, and it's in perfect working order. |

| When my last toaster gave out, I was subscribing to Consumer Reports which rated this toaster as being one of the best, if not "the" best.........forget just what issue that was, but since I definitely wanted a 4 slice one and stainless steel, this was it. I don't find it toasts any faster than any other toaster I've had, but it does a decent job, and I do like the feature that allows you to raise up smaller bread and English muffins, no more having to stabbing them with a knife or fork! I think it does a decent job, what do you expect from a toaster? I love the stainless steel and "art deco" look. I'd buy it again. |
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

| The Good: This toaster works well. It defrosts well. It toasts fairly evenly. I like the feature that allows you to pop the item up further if it is too short to get out easily. I like the button for emergency pop-up. The Bad: This toaster gets really hot. If you want to put it under cupboards be prepared to pull the toaster out from under them to use it--unless you want warped undersides and have a fire extinguisher handy. Also, the slots are not wide enough for the wide types of bread. I tried cutting the edges off, but the toast curled and burned. I tried turning the bread on its side, but It didn't toast the whole piece(this is the main reason I will be returning it). The Ugly: It is really BIG, which is probably why it gets too hot for use under the cupboards. Conclusion: If you have the counter space and use "standard" size bread, I recommend this toaster. If not, don't buy it. |
