Memorial Day commemorates a day to honor and celebrate in remembrance those who have served our country and us. Numerous parades and resistivities will take place that weekend. Many people will be attending parades with their children. If you are one of those who will be venturing out to celebrate and honor our veterans, please remember some important safety reminders regarding parades.
* Keep your children safe and close at hand. Do not let them wander about, as there is often a tremendous crowd of people present. If you turn your back your child could be gone in the blink of an eye.
* Teach your children about what to do if you do become separated. The older children can meet you at a certain spot that you have already planned and discussed should this occur.
* Make sure to dress appropriately. If the parade occurs during the daytime be sure to have your children wear a hat and a sunscreen. If the parade is a nighttime event bring along a light jacket, as it may become chilly.
* Obey rules regarding where to stand and view the parade.
* Leave your pets at home. Because there are usually crowds of people at these types of events your animals are safer at home. Bringing them will likely cause them to suffer from undue stress and possible injury.
Enjoy your holiday weekend this Memorial Day and keep your children safe.
