A Britax Roundabout Convertible car seat is the best convertible car seat for a number of parents. It can be installed as a rear-facing car seat when your child is an infant, and later installed as a front-facing car seat when your child is old enough to sit safely in one. The key to safe use of any car seat is proper installation. Installation of the Britax Roundabout is a bit more complex that a single use seat, but is straightforward once you get the hang of it by following the instructions given below.
Note: These instructions assume that your vehicle is equipped with the LATCH system, which has been provided in most cars since 2003. Check your owner’s manual to be sure that you have this feature. If you do not have the LATCH system, your Britax Roundabout Convertible car seat can be installed using a standard seat belt.
To install the Britax Roundabout as a rear-facing car seat, proceed as follows:
- The Britax Roundabout must be installed in a reclined position when used as a rear facing car seat. The angle of recline is adjusted using the recline lever located on the front of the seat. Simply pull on the lever and adjust the seat to the required angle.
- Find the LATCH system brackets in the creases of the rear seat. They are located where the back of the car meets the bottom of the seat. Rotate the seat to face you as you place it into the rear seat.
- Press in the right LATCH connection to the right-most connection in the car. The connection is secure when you hear a sharp click.
- Rotate the Britax car seat so that it is facing the back seat of the automobile. Attach the remaining LATCH connection until you hear the sharp click.
- Press or lean on the car seat to compress it tightly against the seat of the automobile, and tighten the strap on each side such that the seat is immobile when pulled upon.
To install the Britax Roundabout as a front-facing car seat, proceed as follows:
- Pull both LATCH connectors through the seat’s right side, and release them until they are extended fully. Thread the LATCH connectors through the forward-facing slot on the car seat’s back side.
- To simplify installation, place the Britax car seat onto the automobile’s back seat such that it is facing in the opposite passenger’s window.
- Remove the tether strap from its pouch, which should be located at the top of the car seat, and place it somewhere out of your way, perhaps in the car seat itself.
- Press in the right LATCH connection into the right-most connection; the one farthest from you, until you hear the sharp connecting click.
- Rotate the Britax car seat so that it is facing forward, and attach the remaining LATCH connection until you hear the sharp click.
- Press or lean on the car seat to compress it tightly against the seat of the automobile, and tighten the strap on each side such that the seat is immobile when pulled upon. Using the automobile’s user manual, find the car’s tether anchor which is used for forward facing installations. It should be located at the back or bottom of the rear seat
- Loosen the tethers strap, click the tether into place, and tighten the strap securely.
