You’re riding your bicycle down the empty street and suddenly someone pops up in front, sending you to the ground. When you get up, you find yourself with a collection of bruises. Bruises on the face are usually alarming in appearance, so you end up with a whole fiasco to deal with.
WebMD reports that women are more prone to bruises as compared to men. Apart from making your face appear blue, bruises also cause pain in some instances. When your face becomes a victim, you would want to make them disappear at a faster rate than the normal healing time. Thankfully there are some home remedies that can speed up the healing process.
It is important to note that while home remedies may help in case of minor facial injuries, they won’t be helpful in traumatic situations. Women suffering from trauma facial injuries would find cosmetic procedures and plastic surgery as more viable options compared to home remedies. According to Dr Hugh Hetherington, such solutions fall in the field of medicine that is unique when compared to other fields, as they provide a resolution of not only physical damage, but emotional damage as well. Plastic surgery, he says, has a much deeper meaning than those who think it is a vain practice.
Home remedies for minor facial bruises
1. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple Cider Vinegar has natural skincare elements… ask Scarlett Johansson. Apart from cleansing the face, it also promotes circulation of blood and removes blood clotting from the bruised area
It also has anti-inflammatory properties and thereby provides nourishment to the affected part of the face. All that you’re supposed to do is to take a small amount of real Apple Cider Vinegar on a clean wash cloth and apply it to the affected area. Alternatively, you can also use a cotton ball. The difference in the appearance of the bruise before and after application will be visible in a couple of days.
2. Ice
Ice is known to get rid of swelling in such injuries and it also speeds up the healing process. Ice is mostly productive when the injury is still fresh, as it colds the blood vessels around the bruise and reduces the amount of blood that leaks out into tissues.
Take a plastic bag or a small towel and wrap a few ice cubes in it. Apply to the area of the bruises, and continue the application for about 5 to 10 minutes. Avoid prolonged use because over-cooling the skin around the injury can result in frost bite.
3. Herbs
Any home remedies list can’t be complete without an herb or two. Thyme is an herb that has natural healing properties, and it is perfectly safe to apply on the face through the standard protocol.
Take thyme leaves and boil them in a stove or a pan for about 15 to 20 minutes. After the time interval, let the leaves cool and remove the leaves by draining the mixture. In the end, you’ll be left with the water. Dip cotton balls into this water and apply it on the bruised area. You can repeat this process every day until the bruises start to disappear.
Apart from these home remedies, pay attention to your diet and try to incorporate power packed and Vitamin C foods as they contain bioflavoids that help in recovering from bruises. By following this approach, your face will come back to its natural state sooner than you know.
